Hello Friends,
I am often challenged to remove the fluff from my conversation and just get to the point. It’s not inherent in my nature to be that way; rather I like to accompany messages with great detail and passion. I used to believe that’s what others valued and wanted in a conversation. A few years ago a colleague of mine enlightened me when he smiled and said in the midst of my detailed explanation ‘you are going to get to the point, aren’t you’?
Apparently he just wasn’t that interested in all the fluff. Not undaunted in my quest to figure all things out I practiced the skill of getting to the point with him during many subsequent meetings. While at times I would find myself sliding back and still admittedly doing the same today, I aspire to keep working on it and get it right. What he taught me was valuable and true. I still find occasions now and again where I don't need to be so direct and it is in those moments I relish in adding in the fluff. Until next time…
